What is vestibular therapy?

Vestibular therapy, also known as vestibular rehabilitation, is a therapy session designed to help patients suffering from balance disorder to regain stability and adjust their imbalance. A balance disorder can be caused by various factors affecting the vestibular system. Through a technique known as adaptation and compensation, your vestibular system can be reprogrammed using both active and passive therapies to redevelop connections with the brain to achieve stability and balance.

What can lead to dizziness?

Currently, about 25% of Canadians are likely to experience dizziness or vertigo at some stage in their life. Dizziness and imbalance have been the second most complaint within a doctor’s office. However, when you begin to experience these signs or symptoms, you may be feeling as if you want to fall or your equilibrium is affected.  These symptoms can come in varying degrees, and in some conditions, it might be a sign of severe health problems.

Types of balance disorders that we treat using vestibular therapy.

Various conditions can cause balance disorders. At Family Physiotherapy, some of the conditions we treat include;

  • Vestibular neuritis
