Life doesn’t have to be excruciating! Family Physiotherapy can help you find relief for your neck pain
Neck discomfort can be debilitating and highly unbearable, particularly if it extends from the neck to the shoulders. The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) estimates that around one-third of the population will experience neck pain during any given year. If left untreated, it can deteriorate, and, in severe situations, surgery may be required. Your neck is a vital part of everyday movement, and severe pains can impair your ability to operate normally. Whether you’re having problems sitting straight in your chair at work or leaning your head down to tie your shoes, physiotherapy can help. Each year, physiotherapy allows thousands of patients to find relief from neck pain.
Our Edmonton physiotherapy clinic is committed to resolving your neck pain. Contact Family Physiotherapy today to get the relief you need. We will ensure you get to live a pain-free life as quickly as possible.
Recognize neck pain:
Neck pain can arise for a variety of causes. Neck discomfort often radiates from the base of the skull to the top of the shoulder blades before settling at the back of the neck. The intensity of the pain varies, ranging from a persistent dull aching to acute, stabbing aches. Neck discomfort may occasionally be accompanied by additional symptoms, including but not limited to the following:
- Upper body stiffness and muscular tightness
- Upper extremity numbness or tingling
- Discomfort and pain associated with prolonged standing in the same position arm weakness
- Sleep deprivation as a result of pain and discomfort
- Inability to stand fully upright or sit straight
The following conditions frequently cause neck pain:
Neck pain is most frequently caused by an injury to the neck’s tissues or bone structures. However, certain degenerative disorders can also result in neck pain. Several common conditions that cause neck pain include the following:
Injuries: Whiplash, which is often caused by an automobile or high-impact sports collision, is one of the most prevalent neck discomfort injuries. This is referred to as a “strain” injury because it causes the head to whip rapidly back and forth, injuring the neck’s soft tissues.
Illnesses: Neck pain can be caused by various diseases and conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, meningitis, and cancer.
Compression of the nerves: If you have a herniated disc in the neck or a narrowing of the foramen (a place where the nerves exit the spine), the nerves that branch off from the spinal cord can become squeezed. In certain instances, nerve discomfort can extend all the way from the neck to the hands and fingers – a disorder called “radiculopathy.”
Strains of muscle: Overuse of the neck muscles can cause them to become strained. Even simple activities such as sitting at your desk all day with your neck craned toward the computer screen can cause neck muscular pain.
Degeneration of the joints: As with every other joint in the body, the neck joints can deteriorate over time, resulting in pain. Osteoarthritis, for example, can erode the cartilage between the vertebrae in the neck, resulting in neck pain.
Begin your neck pain relief journey today at Family Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a unique treatment option for neck discomfort than pain-relieving medication. At Family Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists perform an initial physical evaluation to determine your neck’s range of motion and any limits caused by your pain. They will then perform a medical and physical diagnosis that will dictate how your treatment plan will be structured. You and your physiotherapist will collaborate to define the goals and expectations for each therapy stage, with the primary goal of resolving neck pain and recovering as rapidly as possible.
Neck pain treatments will almost always include manual or “hands-on” therapy, which entails the use of specialized techniques to lessen your neck’s stiffness and increase its range of motion. Additionally, our Edmonton physiotherapists will prescribe specific exercises to strengthen, grow, and enhance the muscles and tissues in your neck. We will work on modifying your posture to aid in the rehabilitation of your neck muscles and prevent future damage. Additional treatment options like ice and heat therapy, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation may be included as determined appropriate by our physiotherapists.
Allow your neck pain to continue to bring you suffering. Contact Family Physiotherapy today to make an appointment with one of our licensed Edmonton physiotherapists! We will assist you in getting started on the path to long-term pain treatment.
